Dear Club Members

As you know the ACTCCC holds well over 90 events annually, of different distances for runners of all ages and abilities.  One of our major events will shortly be staged and we are seeking your assistance to ensure it is a massive success.

The 24^th Annual Women and Girls’ Fun Run and Walk will be held at 9:00 am, Sunday 11 April 2010.  The race is a 5km circuit from Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park.  We are seeking assistance from Club members to volunteer for a range of tasks on Saturday 10^th April (afternoon) and Sunday 11^th April (morning).

We have successfully obtained a grant from ACT Sport and Recreation and this year we will be using an electronic timing system, which is really exciting and will also make volunteering so much easier!  As a result, we need volunteers for: 

·         race area set up (Saturday afternoon) and dismantle (Sunday morning);

·         looking after a water station on the course (this is very easy and involves filling and handing out cups of water to runners);

·         course marshalls along the course (so no-one goes the wrong way);

·         parking helpers on the day;

·         handing out race numbers and timing chips on Sunday morning; and

·         removing timing chips from runners at the end of the race (SO much more efficient than manually inputting times). 

In terms of race set up and dismantle, we are particularly seeking the assistance of perhaps a dozen robust and energetic males to do things like bang in poles to support bunting.  (And then you can cheer on your partner/mother/sister whilst they run – a win/win situation!)

All duties (whether for Saturday or Sunday) will probably take a maximum of two hours of volunteer time so we would be really grateful if you were able to offer assistance.  From personal knowledge, we all also know that the more volunteers who are cheering on runners makes for a much happier running experience!

The Club is staging the inaugural Canberra Road Running Festival this year, meaning that we are going to have an extremely busy four months ahead of us.
